Hey Everyone,
well it has been a while since I put something up here, I've been quite busy with work and social events which havent subtracted the amount of practice I'm getting done but its diminished my time to put a blog together.
So I got a couple of quick paints I did one a quick study from bramstokers dracula and the other was an even quicker painting based on a scene from the final harry potter movie.
I've also been doing a fair some still lifes and life drawings, unfortunately the life drawings are of my lovely partner so I'm not going to be putting those up. but here are some of my life drawings. the one on the viewers left is my wallet and the one on the right is an ornament.
here are some older sketches and other bits and bobs. fiddling with poses, trying to inject some more dynamic and perspective into it all. and theres also quick paint I did of madame mirage and hulk.
Progress is slow but I'm sticking with it, I'm also doing alot of stuff for my own projects that I dont want to show until I have everything ready.

Dark Samus Process.
Hey Everyone!
So, I gave myself a bit of free time this week to try and work on something a bit more finished. I do alot of more finished work of OC's but I dont like sharing those. so I thought I'd do some fanart instead. one of the characters I have always wanted to be able to draw well is Samus from the metroid series, so I thought I'd draw her, but while searching google for referance I found this picture of Dark Samus Instead, so I thought I'd give this a shot.
So I started the piece really small and rough, and redrew over the top of it repeatedly until I liked the figure/pose.
I added some shading smoothed everything out added some color, did a few final tweaks, then I hated it and gave up. lol I suck at the finish I really do, whenever I try to clean up a piece I always feel like I lose alot of the original energy of the sketch. Something I need to work on. I might revisit it a bit later when I've learned more but I'm burned out on it now.
practice makes perfect and considering it was just a bit of fun I dont mind the result. one of the big problems I found was I wasn't really able to understand the detail in the referance as it was so small and it was the only one I could find of the same costume. I probably would have been better off Drawing normal samus ;)

je ne sais quoi
Hey everyone,
I've not really had a great chance to draw this week, Having to spend time on coloring stuff (you know.. making money) but I got a few little tidbits from my Anatomy Studies to show. I sat down earlier in the week and read front to back an entire anatomy book, naturely I wasn't able to absorb all of its contents in one go, when I have a free week I think I'll go through each individual section of the book , head, then arms etc until I have a thorough grounding in all of the anatomy.
The most important things I learned were very basic but they made all the differance to me, like learning what ligaments are, what differant types of muscles there are, what muscles do what, the differant types of joints. I think its fair to say I tippled my knowledge on how the body works in a single afternoon.
I'm feeling pretty good about these in comparison to some of my other earlier attempts at drawing the human figure, considering I didnt referance any of these poses, these feel a little bit more lively, I'm getting a bit of interesting perspective going in some as well which is something I struggle with. all and all feeling a bit better about the basics. need to do a bit more anatomy study and some more drawing from life to ground my knowledge a bit more but progress is progress.

incipit
Hey Everyone,
So I've had this Idea in my head for a while to start a drawing Blog Chronicling my attempt to become a better artist. As some would know I am actually a professional comic-book 'Colorist' meaning usually I color other peoples drawings, which is pretty awesome dont get me wrong Its an artform all on its own, I like my job and I'm not really looking to do anything professionally as a full artist for hire (though as I get better I could change my mind) , I just want to be able to visualize my own Ideas and get a few of my own projects off the ground.
so in this blog you'll probably see a lot of different things, little digitally painted scribbles quick full color sketches of recognizable characters, anatomy studies and hopefully some finished pieces. I'm setting a loose goal of being able to draw a 10 page comic-book preview with a cover by the end of the year.
Here are some Quick sketches I did for practice, all references Acquired through Googling Olympic sports then mixed with my brain! I was doing a 5 minute each thing with these some of them turned out great, others (the wrestlers) not so great. I didnt do alot of deep study of anatomy before doing these (like 2 weeks ago now) I have since really taken to 'reading' anatomy books, not just looking at the pictures and I've noticed alot of improvements in drawings I'll be posting here shortly.
And here are some random color doodles I did for fun a while back, mainly working on facial expressions, wrinkles, anatomy etc. these are quite old now, 3 or so months infact. referances taken indiscriminately from photo's (stock and otherwise) movie stills etc
thanks for looking! Hoping to have some much newer and much better stuff to look at soon.
